Department of Mechanical Engineering YITS is evolving and responding to modern needs and trends. The department ensures that it stays abreast with the latest development taking place in this dynamic field of engineering. Thermal Engineering Lab, IC Engine Lab, Meteorology & Instrumentation Lab etc., make his one of the most sought after courses at YITS.

Department Profile

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and material science for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at YITS attracts and features a rich diversity and quantity of talented individuals, with 60 undergraduates, students and over 20 faculty members. All mechanical laboratories in YITS are fully equipped with latest machinery as per JNTU Syllabus to train the youth and help them fulfill their dreams of becoming the best mechanical engineers.

Department Labs



3D printing and testing lab of YITS is established to equip the students in the area of additive manufacturing. The laboratory rooms totally four commercial 3D printers works based on Fusion Deposition Modeling and Digital Light Projection Technology. The facility is capable of servicing to the need of Jewellery, Medical and Industrial business sectors. Besides reverse engineering works are carried out with the help of 3D scanner and CNC machines. The major applications are, Master copies for vacuum casting and other low volume prototyping techniques, Patterns for investment casting, Functional testing prototypes, Low volume/ limited edition products especially for complex geometries, Visual prototypes for photo shoots and market testing, Dental/ jewellery/ art and other sectors which require high detailing and finish.


CNC lab

It helps the students to understand the basic concepts of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tool and CNC programming. The Lab has Production model CNC lathe and CNC milling machines with CAM simulation software’s like CMAS, Edge CAM 10.75, and Falcon.



The Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulic Machines laboratory is equipped with a number of equipment and experimental setups to study the fundamentals and applied aspects of fluid mechanics and hydraulic machines. The setups are used for calibration of flow measuring devices such as venturi meter, orifice meter, notches, water meter, rotameter etc used in channels and pipes and Losses in pipes by major and minor loss apparatus. Measurements of critical Performance parameters like efficiency, flow rate etc of various hydraulic machines such as turbines, pumps are also measured in this lab.



This fuels and lubricant lab helps students to understand the fuel and lubricants properties, to develop an idea of fuel properties and their variation with temperature, to determine kinematic viscosity and calorific value of fuels and to determine friction power and volumetric efficiency of IC Engines and the use of multi stage compression.



The pneumatics and hydraulics lab is fully equipped with pneumatic and hydraulic trainer kits. The pneumatic kits include basic pneumatics, advanced pneumatics, Electro-pneumatics and programmable Logic Controller Controlled pneumatics. The lab is also equipped with Automation Studio simulation software and Labview Data acquisition software.



This lab concentrates on developing basic understanding about various instruments that are involved in measuring. It enables the student to understand the working of various measuring instruments. It also focuses on all principles, working, advantages, disadvantages and applications of various measuring instruments. In this lab, students also will gain a broad understanding of the control systems and can also learn in detail about how to measure displacement, temperature, pressure, level, flow, acceleration, vibration, strain, humidity, force, torque and power and their appropriate application.



This lab let the students learn modeling and simulation to assist in the design and failure analysis by evaluating the effects of loads on systems or products.



This lab in YITS is equipped with machine tools and their accessories which enable the students to acquire practical knowledge in metal cutting and the students will be able to perform different operations on machines. It also provides platform to the research and development in the field of Tribology and manufacturing which equipped with friction and wear tester (Dry and wet type), Vacuum Diffusion bonding and Induction melting furnace



It helps to supplement the principles learnt in kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery and to understand how certain measuring devices are used for dynamic testing.



Metallurgy lab of mechanical department enables students to characterize the microstructures of different ferrous and non-ferrous metals by preparing various test specimens.



Metrology lab in YITS let the students to learn the use of measuring instruments for observation, monitoring and control.



The objective of the mechanics of solids lab is to perform experiments which are related to Mechanics of Solid subject in order to understand the behaviour of solid materials, especially their motion and deformation under the action of forces, temperature changes, phase changes, and other external or internal agents with the help of different mechanical equipment which students study in theory. We make  students to perform  different practical like Simple Beam, Different Lifting Machines, Tension and Compression test , Force and Force Systems, Moment of Inertia of FlyWheel, Coefficient of Static Friction etc.



The IC Engines lab is well-equipped and enables students to understand the basic construction of two stroke and four stroke diesel and petrol engine. The lab also contain basic parts of an engine like carburettor, Fuel injection system, engine cooling system
